Greyhounds Sweep Farmingdale State on Gold Out for Pediatric Cancer Night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team swept visiting Farmingdale State (N.Y.) College in non-conference action Thursday evening in Johnston Hall as the Greyhounds hosted a Gold Out for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley.

"It was such a nice night to support PCFLV," stated Head Coach Shelley Bauder. "I want to thank all the fans who helped this great organization and a big thanks to Lexie Szaro for organizing this annual event. We were happy to win in three. Kirah played outstanding defense, leading the team with 15 digs, and Erin led our offense with hitting 13 kills and almost .300."

The Hounds, now 7-9 overall, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first set but would eventually trail, 8-6. Sophomore right side hitter Emerson Gieryic went to the service line with the match tied at 9-9 and served six straight points including three service aces to give Moravian a 15-9 lead. The Blue and Grey would eventually win the opening set 25-22.

The Rams scored the first six points of the second set and led 11-4 before the Hounds slowly cut into the deficit. Moravian fought back and tied the set at 13-13 before taking the lead at 15-14. The set was tied at 20-20 before senior middle blocker Erin Tiger served up the final points for a 25-20 set win.

The third set was tied early at 2-2 before eight straight points from freshman libero Ally Locy to build a 10-2 lead. Farmingdale State would close within two points at 15-13 before the Greyhounds went on to win 25-18 to sweep the match.

Tiger paced the Hounds with 13 kills to go with three digs while freshman right side hitter Jess Appleton and freshman outside hitter Katie Hudson each had six kills with Hudson adding five digs. Freshman middle blocker Renee Mapa contributed five kills while freshman outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach and senior outside hitter Rachel Farmer both had three kills with Dreisbach adding a team-high 15 digs and Farmer having five digs.

Junior setter Victoria Kauffman paced the Moravian offense with 33 assists to go along with three kills and five digs while Gieryic finished with three service aces. Senior outside hitter Brooke Kusmider had a pair of kills and two digs in the victory while Locy had five digs and junior defensive specialist Alexis Szaro added seven digs.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 22 at the Osprey Invitational being hosted by Stockton (N.J.) University with matches versus Springfield (Mass.) College at 1:00 p.m. and FDU-Florham at 3:00 p.m.
