Hounds Fall to Drew in 2022 Landmark Conference Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse team fell to visiting Drew University, 11-8, on John Makuvek Field Saturday afternoon to begin the 2022 Landmark Conference season.

How It Happened

  • The Rangers scored a pair of goals to build a 2-0 lead. Greyhound senior attack Connor James put the Hounds on the scoreboard with 1:25 left in the quarter, and he scored again just nine seconds later to knot the contest at 2-2. However, Drew scored with 20 ticks left on the clock to lead 3-2 after 15 minutes of action
  • James netted his third marker of the afternoon three minutes into the second quarter to tie the score again at 3-3. The Rangers took a 4-3 advantage before sophomore attack Brennan Fluehr knotted the match at 4-4. Drew moved ahead once again while a man-up goal from sophomore attack Trevor Dzama had the contest tied at 5-5 heading into the intermission.
  • Drew retook the lead early in the third quarter before James connected on his fourth goal of the day at the 12:48 mark. However, the Rangers would score the final three goals of the period to hold a 9-6 advantage after 45 minutes of play
  • James netted two goals in the fourth quarter including one with a man-advantage while Drew also scored twice in the final 15 minutes

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had three goal scorers with James netting six goals to go with an assist, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Dzama contributed a goal, an assist and a pair of ground balls while Fluehr scored once
  • Senior attack Griffin LeBlond and junior midfielder Jack Bakey both had one assist for the Greyhounds with LeBlond scooping up four ground balls and Bakey adding two ground balls
  • Freshman goalie Thomas Lee recorded 18 saves and three ground balls while sophomore defender Matt Baer had team-highs of six ground balls and four caused turnovers
  • Graduate student defender Jimmy Schicke added four ground balls and two caused turnovers while junior midfielder Shane Cassel also had four ground balls
  • Freshman midfielder Gannon Mesko was 5-for-10 on face-offs with a pair of ground balls while senior midfielder Ben Walek was 4-for-12 on face-offs
