Moravian Rallies from Three-Goal Halftime Deficit to Defeat Susquehanna on Senior Day

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse team rallied from a three-goal halftime deficit with seven unanswered goals to finish the match as the Greyhounds defeated visiting Susquehanna University, 14-10, in Landmark Conference action Saturday as the Hounds celebrated Senior Day on John Makuvek Field. 

How It Happened

  • The Blue and Grey scored the opening goal of the match when senior attack Connor James found the net just 2:24 into the contest. The River Hawks answered with four straight goals for a 4-1 advantage before senior midfielder Kevin Berlin scored. Susquehanna tallied two more goals including one with a man-advantage in the final minute of the period to lead 6-2 after 15 minutes of action
  • Moravian netted the first three goals of the second quarter to pull within a goal at 6-5 with James, senior attack Griffin LeBlond and freshman midfielder Steven Salica each finding the net. The River Hawks countered with three goals to extend the edge back to four goals at 9-5. Freshman midfielder Aaron Judge scored with 1:43 until the intermission to make it a 9-6 at halftime
  • James opened the third quarter with a man-up goal to cut the deficit to two for the Greyhounds; however, Susquehanna scored a man-down goal just over two minutes later, but that ended up being the River Hawks final goal of the afternoon. Sophomore attack Brennan Fluehr hit the goal with just over 10 seconds left in the third period as the Blue and Grey trailed 10-8 after 45 minutes of play
  • LeBlond netted hit second of the match 2:33 into the fourth to make it a 10-9 contest while Judge knotted the score at 10-10 with 10:32 remaining. The Hounds needed just 29 seconds to take the lead back with Salica scoring, and he added another goal at the 8:14 mark. LeBlond and Judge each added one more goal as the Greyhounds posted the victory
  • Prior to the match, Moravian honored Berlin, James, LeBlond, Zach Bergeron, Liam Dugan, RJ Guffy, Nathan Hannis, Tyler James, Nick Nolder and Ben Walek before the contest

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had six different players score with Connor James, LeBlond, Salica and Judge each netting hat tricks. James also had three ground balls. Berlin and Fluehr each finished with one goal
  • Sophomore attack Trevor Dzama dished out six assists while junior midfielder Shane Cassel had an assist
  • Freshman goalie Thomas Lee improved to 6-2 on the year as he made 11 saves
  • Graduate student defender Jimmy Schicke and sophomore defenders Matt Baer and Jacob Stetson all had four ground balls with Stetson adding three caused turnovers and Schicke and Baer both causing two turnovers. Freshman defender Jason Levy added a pair of ground balls
  • Walek was 7-for-13 on face-offs with a pair of ground balls while freshman Gannon Mesko went 5-for-14 on face-offs
  • The River Hawks led the Greyhounds in shots, ground balls and face-off wins but the Hounds forced Susquehanna into 21 turnovers, and Moravian was 19-for-24 on clearing attempts
