Moravian Selected to Win Another Landmark Indoor Title

Moravian Selected to Win Another Landmark Indoor Title

TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark track & field coaches unanimously picked Moravian College to repeat as women's indoor champions this year. The Greyhounds received 50 points, and five first place votes as coaches cannot vote for themselves. Susquehanna University finished second in the poll with 38 points and the remaining first place vote while Juniata College was picked third with 26 points.

Moravian is looking for its sixth straight Landmark Conference Indoor Championship this spring as the Greyhounds have won every Landmark Conference Track & Field title in the history of the conference. Senior All-American jumper Micah Leonard (York, Pa./William Penn HS) will anchor the squad this year that returns 22 competitors from last season.  Sophomore sprinter Brielle Sutter (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook HS) won both the 200 and 400-meter dashes both indoors and outdoors at the conference meets in 2012 while sophomores Morgan Redmond (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon HS) and Brianna Wright (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin HS) joined with Sutter to help the Greyhounds capture three Landmark relay titles last season.

Susquehanna lost a few key contributors from last year, but have depth in the throws and distance areas. Ashley West was voted Landmark Cross Country Rookie of the Year this fall and is projected as an even better mid-distance talent.

Juniata returns a wealth of experience including senior Angela Shaffer and junior Katrina Woods who combined for more than half of the Eagles' points in last year's championship.

The Catholic University of America finished fourth in the poll with 23 points while Goucher College was fifth with 22 points. The United States Merchant Marine Academy was picked sixth with 15 points.

The 2012-13 season kicks off Friday, November 30 when Moravian travels to the Lehigh University Opener. Four other teams will open up Saturday, December 1 while USMMA will kick off action January 5. Susquehanna will host the Landmark Championships February 23.
