Women's Track & Field Goes For Sixth Straight Landmark Championship

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College women's indoor track & field team will compete for its sixth straight Landmark Conference Indoor Championship this Saturday. The meet is hosted by Susquehanna University and is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.

The Greyhounds, who have won a total of 19 indoor conference titles, will be led by senior Micah Leonard, who was the 2011 and 2012 Landmark Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. Leonard was the Landmark long jump champion in 2011 and 2012 while she also was crowned the triple jump champion from 2010 – 2012. This year, Leonard holds the top distance in the long jump at 5.61 meters (18 feet, 5 inches) and the triple jump at 11.82 meters (38 feet, 9 ½ inches), both Landmark Conference records.

Sophomore Brielle Sutters the defending indoor champ in the 200 and 400 meter dashes. She currently holds the second best time in the Landmark in the 400 at 1:00.76. She also ran a 27.88 in the 200 and a 8.36 in the 60 meter dash. Classmate Morgan Redmond currently holds the top time in the conference at 9.42 in the 60 meter hurdles.

Redmond also has the third best time in the Landmark in the 60 meter dash at 8.23 to go with her seventh best time in the 200 meter at 27.94. Sutter and Redmond also return from last year's 4x200 meter relay that won the Landmark title.

Freshman Corinne Glass has the top time in the 200 meters at 26.55. Glass also ranks third in the Landmark in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.54 and fourth in the 60 meters at 8.33. Also participating in the sprint events will be sophomore Brianna Wright and freshman Christelle Reglas. The Greyhounds also have the top times this winter in the 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays with times of 1:52.89 and 4:06.22, respectively.

Moravian has the top four heights in the pole vault heading into the indoor championships. Junior Alison Vanek leads the way with a height of 3.65 meters (11 feet, 11 ¾ inches). Sophomore Hailey Kester is second at 3.50 meters (11 feet, 5 ¾ inches) while classmate Dana Fineman has the third best vault of 3.20 meters (10 feet, 6 inches). Junior Amanda Smilgis is tied with Julie Scales of Susquehanna for the fourth best height at 3.05 meters (10 feet).

Also participating in the jumps with Leonard will be Reglas, who has the third best distance in the Landmark in the long jump at 4.88 meters (16 feet, ¼ inch). Vanek, Kester and sophomore Giana Vecchio will contribute in the long and triple jumps for the Greyhounds.

Sophomore Emily Lambright heads the distance runners for Moravian. Lambright has the fourth fastest time in the mile run at 5:26.71. She also has the sixth fastest time in the 800 meter run (2:32.07) and the seventh fastest in the 5,000 meter run (20:09.20). Sophomore Claire DelCasale has the sixth best time in the 5,000 meters at 19:46.80. Junior Jennifer Smilgis is right behind Lambright in the 800 meter run at 2:33.37 while sophomore Jessie Goldberg helping out in the mile with a time of 5:36.54.

Sophomore Jenny Kratch leads the throws for the Greyhounds. Kratch is currently fourth best in the weight throw with a distance of 13.03 meters (42 feet, 9 inches) and sixth in the shot put at 10.66 meters (34 feet, 11 ¾ inches).
