Hounds Score Season-High 17 Runs in Non-Conference Victory at Keystone

LA PLUME, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team scored a season-high 17 runs to earn a 17-7 non-conference victory at Keystone College Wednesday in a game shortened to eight innings due to darkness.

The Greyhounds, now 14-9 overall after the fourth straight win, had 17 hits in the contest with senior first baseman Evan Kulig going 4-for-6 with five RBIs. Senior center fielder Austin Markowski was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a double while junior second baseman Ian Csencsits was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, a double and a triple. Junior catcher Ian Luberti had a of RBIs while senior catcher Chase Rogers scored three times. Kulig, Csencsits, senior third baseman Tim Heard, freshman designated hitter AJ Brosious, junior right fielder Carmine Palummo and sophomore right fielder Thomas Philipps all crossed the plate two times.

Freshman Eddie Olsen improved to 2-1 on the mound as he allowed four runs, just two earned on three hits and three walks to go with five strikeouts in six innings of action. Seniors Brendon Caraway and Rhett Jacoby each tossed one inning in relief with Jacoby recording one strikeout.

The Hounds would take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Heard and Csencsits drew walks to begin the game and Kulig reached on a fielder's choice. Markowski followed with a two-RBI double as Heard and Kulig scored.

The Blue and Grey scored three times in the top of the second to push the edge to 5-0. Rogers drew a one-out walk and Palummo singled before Csencsits ripped a two-RBI triple bringing in both runners. Kulig followed with an RBI single as Csencsits trotted home.

The Giants plated four runs in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 5-4.

Moravian answered with two runs in the top of the fourth when Rogers singled to lead off and Palummo reached on a fielder's choice before both runners raced home on a two-RBI double from Csencsits.

The Greyhounds added two more runs in the seventh for a 9-4 edge. Rogers reached base on another fielder's choice while Philipps drew a walk in a pinch-hit appearance. With the bases loaded later in the frame, Kulig connected on a two-RBI single as Rogers and Philipps scored.

Keystone would get those two runs back in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 9-6 game.

Moravian tacked on eight runs in the top of the eighth to make it a 17-6 score. Philipps reached on an error as Brosious scored the first run of the inning before Heard connected on an RBI single to score freshman pinch runner Royce Frazier. Kulig drove in Philipps and Heard with a two-RBI single while Markowski brought in Csencsits with an RBI single. Kulig would race home on a wild pitch while Luberti had a two-RBI single to bring in Brosious again and Markowski.

The Giants finished off the scoring with a run in the bottom of the eighth before it was determined to be too dark to play the ninth.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, April 7 in a non-conference doubleheader at St. John Fisher (N.Y.) College beginning at 12:30 p.m.
