Greyhounds Drop Landmark Conference Series Finale at Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Moravian College baseball team dropped a 12-4 decision in the final contest of a three-game Landmark Conference series at The Catholic University of America Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

The Greyhounds had 11 hits in the game with senior catcher Chase Rogers going 3-for-3. Senior first baseman Evan Kulig and sophomore right fielder Thomas Philipps were both 2-for-4 in the game with Kulig adding an RBI while Rogers, Kulig and Philipps all had a double in the contest.

Freshman Scott Poulson made the start on the mound for the Hounds and had one strikeout in 2.2 innings while junior Connor Morro recorded two strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work. Senior Brendon Caraway also had two strikeouts in an inning of action while sophomore Rodney Berger tossed one inning.

Catholic took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning while the Blue and Grey scored in the top of the third to knot the score at 1-1. Senior third baseman Tim Heard reached on a fielder's choice before racing home on an RBI double down the left field line by Kulig.

The Cardinals retook the lead with four runs in the bottom half of the third inning, and Catholic scored twice in the fourth frame, once in the sixth inning and four times in the seventh for a 12-1 edge.

Moravian pushed a run across the plate in the top of the eighth inning. Kulig singled with one out before two-out singles by junior pinch hitter Ian Luberti and Philipps loaded the bases. Sophomore pinch hitter Brett Moyer then drew an RBI walk to score Kulig.

The Greyhounds finished off the scoring with a pair of runs in the ninth. Senior third baseman Joey Ferolie drew a one-out walk and moved to third on a double by senior pinch hitter Andrew Koenig, and Ferolie would score on an error. Freshman pinch hitter David Bertolotti connected on an RBI single to send Koenig home.

The Hounds are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 17 when the squad hosts Alvernia University in a non-conference game at Gillepsie Field with first pitch slated for 4:00 p.m. as Moravian begins a five-game home stand.
