Hounds Drop Non-Conference Doubleheader at St. John Fisher

PITTSFORD, N.Y. --- The Moravian College baseball team dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader at St. John Fisher (N.Y.) College Sunday but scores of 11-1 and 4-3.

The Greyhounds, now 14-11 on the season, had six hits in the opener with senior first baseman Evan Kulig going 2-for-3. Junior second baseman Ian Csencsits added an RBI for the Blue and Grey.

Senior Brendon Caraway made the start on the mound for Moravian and tossed one-plus innings with one strikeout while freshman Scott Poulson pitched five innings of relief with one strikeout.

St. John Fisher jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and added two runs in the second, one in the third and one in the fourth for a 10-0 lead.

The Greyhounds scored in the top of the fifth frame when freshman shortstop Royce Frazier drew a two-out walk followed by singles from senior third baseman Tim Heard and Csencsits.

The Cardinals tacked on the final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Moravian knocked out eight hits in the second game with Csencsits and senior center fielder Austin Markowski both going 2-for-4 with Markowski driving in two runs and Csencsits adding one RBI.

Kulig started on the mound for the Hounds and tossed five innings with four strikeouts. Senior Rhett Jacoby pitched two innings in relief with three strikeouts while senior Tyler Caraway tossed the final 1.1 innings with one strikeout.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Senior catcher Andrew Koenig walked to lead off the frame and was on third base for a two-out RBI single by Csencsits. Kulig followed with a single, and after a passed ball, Markowski ripped a two-RBI single through the left side as Csencsits and Kulig raced home.

St. John Fisher would plate two runs in the bottom of the fifth and tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the seventh inning. The Cardinals would win the game with a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the ninth.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Wednesday, April 10 when the squad heads to No. 7 Rowan University for a non-conference contest starting at 4:00 p.m.
