Greyhounds Fall to DeSales in Final Non-Conference Game of 2019 Season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team dropped a 12-3 decision to visiting DeSales University in the Greyhounds' final non-conference game of the 2019 season Wednesday at Gillespie Field.

The Hounds had nine hits in the game with senior third baseman Tim Heard going 2-for-2 with a home run and a pair of runs scored while junior right fielder Carmine Palummo was 3-for-4 with a run. Senior first baseman Evan Kulig went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Moravian used seven pitchers with sophomore Kyle Serman making the start and recording a pair of strikeouts. Junior Connor Morro and senior Brendon Caraway each tossed two innings with one strikeout while freshman Scott Poulson had one strikeout in his inning of work. Freshman Eddie Olsen and senior Rhett Jacoby both recorded two strikeouts in an inning of action with Jacoby becoming just the second pitcher in school history to reach 200 career strikeouts with his second of the game. Senior Tyler Caraway tossed the final inning of the contest.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning on three errors by the Hounds.

The Blue and Grey would get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning when Palummo connected on a one-out double to right center field and scored on an RBI single to left field by Kulig.

The score remained 6-1 until the bottom of the seventh when Heard connected on his third home run of the season and his career to lead off the inning in his first at-bat of the afternoon.

DeSales scored four times in the top of the eighth, and the Bulldogs would add two more runs in the top of the ninth for a 12-2 edge.

Moravian finished off the scoring with a run in the bottom of the ninth inning when Heard led off with a single and raced home on an RBI ground out by freshman shortstop Royce Frazier.

The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Friday and Saturday, April 27-28 in a Landmark Conference series at Juniata College with Saturday's doubleheader beginning at 12:30 p.m. in Huntingdon.
