Six Greyhounds named to 2019 Landmark All-Conference Baseball Teams

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College baseball team has had six players earn seven honors on the 2019 Landmark Baseball All-Conference Teams led by senior Evan Kulig, who was named to the All-Conference First Team both as a starting pitcher and as a first baseman.

Joining Kulig on the All-Conference First Team are junior second baseman Ian Csencsits and senior third baseman Tim Heard while senior relief pitcher Tyler Caraway, senior left fielder Mike Mittl and sophomore shortstop Michael Miceli were named to the All-Conference Second Team.

The group helped the Greyhounds to a 22-21-1 record this season including a 12-6 mark in the Landmark Conference regular season to earn the second seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament where the Hounds finished as the runner-up on Sunday.

Kulig, who made the All-Conference First Team in both 2017 and 2018 as a third baseman, led the Greyhounds with a .355 batting average this spring to go with 59 hits, 36 runs, 14 doubles, three triples, a homer and 30 RBIs. Kulig was also 3-2 on the mound over 12 starts to go with a 3.93 ERA and a team-high 66 strikeouts in 68.2 innings. He added 149 putouts and 15 assists in the field. Kulig finished his career fifth in school history with 186 hits, and he added 103 runs (13th all-time), 40 doubles (fifth in school history), five triples, two home runs, 106 RBIs (seventh in school history) and a .350 average (sixth in program history) at the plate in 151 games (seventh all-time). Kulig was also 6-4 on the mound with two saves, a 4.57 ERA and 103 strikeouts (tied for 14th in school history) in 114.2 innings.

Csencsits, who earned his second straight First Team honor, hit .350 this year with 57 hits, 43 runs, 10 doubles, four triples, 22 RBIs and 21 walks on the year. He also had 94 putouts and 88 assists in the field. Csencsits joined the 100-hit club earlier in 2019 and heads to his senior campaign with 129 hits and 96 runs at the plate and 213 assists in the field.

Heard, who moved into the starting line-up at third base with Kulig's move to first base, had a .311 batting average in 2019 to go along with 42 hits, 33 runs, eight doubles, a triple, three home runs, 26 walks and 25 RBIs, and he collected 34 putouts and 75 assists in the field. Heard completed his career with 92 hits, 61 runs and 53 RBIs at the plate and 243 assists in the field.

Caraway was the Greyhounds' top reliever on the year, posting a 7-1 mark out of the bullpen to go with one save, a .283 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 35 innings over 17 appearances. Caraway also had two putouts and seven assists in the field. Caraway had an 8-4 record with one save and 49 strikeouts in 54.2 innings during his two seasons with the Greyhounds.

Mittl, who made the All-Conference Second Team in 2016 when he was also selected as the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year, posted a .324 batting average this season to go with 46 hits, 16 runs, seven doubles, two triples, a homer and 30 RBIs. Mittl finished his career with 162 hits (12th in program history), 100 RBIs (eighth in school history), 78 runs, eight home runs (12th in school history) and 35 stolen bases (tenth all-time) in 151 career games (eighth all-time).

Miceli became a full-time starter at shortstop this year and hit .295 with 33 hits, 18 runs, three doubles, a triple and 12 RBIS, and he added 64 putouts and 109 assists in the field. Miceli heads to his junior season with 55 hits at the plate and 146 assists in the field.
