Men's Soccer Falls to Juniata, 2-1

HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The Juniata College men's soccer team scored a pair of goals in the first 12 minutes to lead the Eagles to a 2-1 Landmark Conference win over visiting Moravian College Saturday.

The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute when junior forward Dane Azeles scored off of a pass from freshman midfielder Chandler Steffen that sent Azeles in on Moravian senior goalie Mike Brand, and Juniata expanded its advantage to 2-0 in the 12th minute when sophomore forward Nick Stone-Weiss found the back of the net off of a pass from senior midfielder Greg Hess.  The Greyhounds nearly cut the lead in half late in the first half when Juniata senior goalie Ezra Cassel saved a header from Moravian freshman defender Brett Harder.

The Greyhounds would get onto the scoreboard in the 86th minute when sophomore midfielder Lewis Cooper netted his third goal of the season off of a pass from sophomore defender Matt Guidon.  Moravian finished the second half with a 9-5 edge in shots for the 45 minute session.

The Greyhounds had a 12-9 advantage in shots to go along with a 5-4 edge in corner kicks in the contest.  Brand made two saves for the Greyhounds while Cassel had four saves for Juniata.

Moravian is scheduled to return to the pitch on Tuesday, October 9th in a non-conference match versus Berkeley (N.J.) College starting at 4:00 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
