Merchant Marine Edges Men's Soccer, 1-0

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College men's soccer team fell to Landmark Conference rival The United States Merchant Marine Academy, 1-0, Saturday afternoon.

Both teams battle each other hard in the first half with neither giving an inch until the Mariners broke through with a goal from sophomore forward Nick Vogel off a free kick. USMMA held the shot advantage in the first half at 6-4 while the Greyhounds held the edge in corner kicks at 2-1.

Moravian and the Mariners continued to battle in the second half. The Greyhounds outshot USMMA, 10-7 in the second half and held the corner kick advantage at 6-3. Freshman midfielder Seth Reynolds had a chance to tie the match at one with an open net in front of him, but the Mariners kicked the ball out from going in.

Senior goalkeeper Mike Brand tallied up five saves in the loss while his counterpart junior Stephen Fucito made two saves.

Moravian outshot USMMA 14-13 and held the corner kick advantage at 8-4.

The Greyhounds return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 17th as they host Landmark Conference foe The University of Scranton. The match is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
