BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University field hockey squad fell to rival Muhlenberg College, 3-1, in non-conference action at John Makuvek Field Saturday as the Greyhounds played their first home match of the 2023 season.

How It Happened

  • The match had been originally scheduled for Friday evening but was postponed to Saturday with storms threatening the area on Friday
  • The squads played a scoreless first quarter Saturday morning with the Mules holding a 3-0 edge in shots
  • Muhlenberg broke onto the scoreboard just 22 seconds into the second quarter, and the Mules kept the lead through the rest of the period to head to the intermission with a 1-0 edge
  • Near the midpoint of the third quarter, Muhlenberg found the cage again to double its advantage to 2-0. Just about three minutes later the Greyhounds countered when senior defender Jenna Segrave blasted a shot from the top of the circle into the net on a penalty corner inserted by senior forward Hanna Leto
  • With roughly ten minutes to go in the match, the Hounds looked to have tied the contest at 2-2 as sophomore midfielder Megan Felmly put a long shot into the net on another penalty corner. However, the officials discussed the shot and determined that Felmly's shot had been too high off the ground in the circle, negating the goal
  • The Mules finished off the scoring with just over six minutes to play with an unassisted goal

Inside the Numbers

  • Segrave's goal was her second of the season and fifth of her career at Moravian, and she also recorded one of two Moravian defensive saves in the contest to give her seven career defensive stops with two this fall
  • Leto picked up her second assist of 2023 to improve her career total to eight assist
  • Freshman goalie Maia Machado recorded four saves in the match while senior defender Onalee Long made a defensive save, the eighth of her career
  • Muhlenberg had a 15-9 advantage in shots and a 10-7 edge in penalty corners
