TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian University field hockey team has had five student-athletes selected to the 2023 Landmark All-Conference Teams with senior midfielder Sarah Bietka and senior defender Jenna Segrave being named to the All-Conference First Team.

Senior defender Onalee Long and sophomore forward Gia Ambrosino were selected to the All-Conference Second Team while freshman goalie Maia Machado garnered a spot on the All-Conference Honorable Mention Squad.

Moravian, led by fourth year Head Coach Sarah Dalrymple, who was in her third year on the field due to the pandemic, completed the year at 9-9 while making the Landmark Conference Tournament for the third straight season and playing the Semifinals for a third consecutive fall. The Hounds defeated Elizabethtown College, 2-1 in double overtime in the Landmark Conference Tournament First Round before falling to top seed and eventual conference champion Susquehanna University, 3-2, in the Semifinals.

“We are extremely proud to have five of our players recognized with postseason accolades,” stated Dalrymple. “It has been incredible to watch these individuals grow and develop over their season!”

Bietka, who earned her first postseason honor, had five goals and a pair of assists this season for the Blue & Grey. Bietka finished her career with 13 goals and seven assists for 33 points, and she netted four game-winning goals for Moravian including one in 2023.

“Sarah is one of the most consistent players I have coached,” Dalrymple commented. “She has been the engine of our team and leads by example with her work rate.”

Segrave, who also received Landmark All-Conference honors for the first time, had two goals and three assists this season to go along with four defensive saves. Segrave finished her two seasons at Moravian with five goals and four assists for 14 points to go with nine defensive saves, which is tied for fifth in program history.

“Jenna has consistently preformed in her role as our center back,” said Dalrymple. “Her ability to distribute and organize allowed her to stand out.”

Long, who was named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team last season and the Landmark All-Conference First Team in 2021, contributed four goals and five assists this year to go with a pair of defensive saves and a game-winning goal. Long completed her career with seven goals and ten assists for 24 points at Moravian, and she was tied for fifth with nine career defensive saves.

“Ona plays with a significant amount of finesse,” noted Dalrymple. “She remains calm under pressure and comes up with huge plays because of it.”

Ambrosino led the Hounds in scoring this season with eight goals and two assists including three game-winning goals.

“Gia has grown throughout the season at Moravian,” Dalrymple stated. “Her presence on the striker line and her ability to finish has allowed her to stand out this season.”

Machado played all but 25 minutes in goal for the Greyhounds in 2023 as she posted a 1.88 goals-against average, 87 saves, a .750 save percentage, four shutouts and a 9-9 record in 1,082 minutes of action.

“Maia has started out her career at Moravian with a lot of success,” Dalrymple commented. “She gained a significant amount of experience this season. Her ability to communicate and organize has allowed her to stand out.”
