Hounds Rally For Win At Wilkes In Second Half

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. --- The Moravian University field hockey squad scored three times in the second half to rally for a 4-3 win at Wilkes University in Landmark Conference action Saturday evening. 

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds scored the opening goal of the match as senior defender Onalee Long found the cage seven minutes into the contest on a penalty corner inserted by sophomore forward Gia Ambrosino 
  • The Colonels answered five minutes later to knot the score at 1-1 after the first quarter
  • Wilkes tallied the only goal of the second period to head to the locker room with a 2-1 edge
  • Moravian tied the game just under six minutes into the second half as senior midfielder Sarah Bietka scored on another penalty corner to make it 2-2 after 45 minutes of action
  • The Greyhounds scored twice in just over four minutes in the fourth quarter as Ambrosino put passes in the cage from both Bietka and sophomore forward Brooke Sodl to give Moravian a 4-2 lead
  • The Colonels pulled within a goal in the 57th minute for the final marker of the contest 

Inside the Numbers

  • Long registered her second goal of the fall and fifth of her career while Bietka scored for the second time in 2023 and now has 10 goals and seven assists in her career
  • Ambrosino leads the Blue & Grey with three goals this season while Sodl earned her first career assist
  • Freshman goalie Maia Machado recorded a pair of saves for her third win of the season and second of the week for the Hounds
  • Moravian finished the night with a 9-8 edge in shots and a 10-1 advantage in penalty corners
