Moravian Men Top Centenary in 2020 Home Opener on John Makuvek Field

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team raced out to a 13-0 halftime lead as the Greyhounds posted a 19-2 victory over visiting Centenary (N.J.) University on John Makuvek Field Saturday afternoon as the Hounds began the 2020 home schedule.

Moravian, now 2-1 on the season, had eight different goal scorers led by sophomore attack Connor James, who netted a career-high six goals. Senior attack Cade Siddron added three goals, three assists and four ground balls while junior midfielder Matt Comini had two goals and two assists. Sophomore attack Griffin LeBlond contributed two goals and an assist while senior midfielder Brandon Sisk and senior attack Kevin Darling both had two goals.

Freshman attack Zach Coppol and sophomore midfielder Kevin Berlin each scored one goal while sophomore midfielder Nick Nolder dished out a career-high six assists to go with five ground balls. Freshman attack Will Melick, freshman attack Matt Burke and junior midfielder Max Towers each had one assist with Towers also going 8-for-9 on face-offs to go along with five ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Ben Walek was 10-for-14 on face-offs with five ground balls while senior long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke  had eight ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Senior MacLean Lincoln made the start in goal and had one save in 15 minutes of action while senior Will Dadouris also had one save while playing the second quarter. Freshman Sean DeMott recorded four saves in the second half while senior midfielder Peter Degnan, senior midfielder Austin Adams, sophomore long stick midfielder Liam Dugan, freshman midfielder Shane Cassel and sophomore midfielder RJ Guffy all scooped up two ground balls.

Siddron opened the scoring three minutes into the contest, and he added another goal midway through the first quarter while James, Comini and Sisk also scored to give the Blue and Grey a 5-0 lead after 15 minutes of action. LeBlond opened and closed an eight-goal second quarter while James scored four times and Siddron and Sisk each had one goal in the period for the 13-0 halftime lead.

Centenary scored the first goal of the second half before Berlin and Coppol scored to make it a 15-1 match after 45 minutes. Darling netted a pair of fourth quarter goals while James and Comini each had one more goal before the end of the contest.

Moravian will play the second of five straight home matches on Wednesday, March 4 when the squad welcomes DeSales University to John Makuvek Field for a non-conference beginning at 4:00 p.m.
