Moravian Drops Hard-Fought Non-Conference Match to Alfred (N.Y.)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team had a lead after the first quarter before falling in a hard-fought non-conference match to visiting Alfred (N.Y.) University, 14-11, on John Makuvek Field Monday afternoon.

Senior attack Cade Siddron led the Greyhounds with four goals and two assists while sophomore attack Griffin LeBlond and sophomore midfielder Nick Nolder each netted two goals. Junior attack Connor Hull contributed a goal, and assist and a pair of ground balls while senior midfielder Brandon Sisk and junior attack Matt Comini both scored one goal with Sisk adding three ground balls. Senior midfielder Austin Adams, junior defender Tanner Leslie, sophomore attack Connor James and freshman midfielder Shane Cassel all had one assist with Leslie adding six caused turnovers and three ground balls and Cassel scooping up four ground balls.

Senior goalie Will Dadouris made a career-high 19 saves in his first start of the season while junior Max Towers was 11-for-22 on face-offs with five ground balls. Sophomore Ben Walek was 3-for-5 on face-offs while senior midfielder Peter Degnan and junior defender Brian Anthony  each added three ground balls. Senior long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke had two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls.

The Saxons scored the first three goals of the contest to build a lead. Hull going Moravian on the scoreboard with 9:28 left in the first quarter to start a run of five straight goals with LeBlond giving the Hounds a 5-3 edge with 23 seconds left in the period. However, Alfred scored with a second left to cut the Greyhounds' lead to 5-4 after 15 minutes of action.

Alfred scored twice to start the second quarter to retake the lead before Siddron scored a may-up goal to knot the contest at 6-6. Comini tied the match again at 7-7 with 4:41 before the intermission; however, the Saxons scored twice in the final 30 seconds of the half to lead 9-7 at halftime.

Siddron and Nolder each scored in the third quarter while Alfred netted three goals in the period to stretch its edge to 12-9 after 45 minutes of action. Both squads scored twice in the fourth quarter with Siddron and LeBlond scoring for the Blue and Grey.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 14 when the squad hosts Muhlenberg College in a non-conference match beginning at 4:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
