SWARTHMORE, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's soccer team tied host Swarthmore College, 2-2, Sunday afternoon in the second round of the Garnet Classic.
How It Happened
- Swarthmore started the scoring with a goal in the 29th minute
- The Hounds countered in the 40th minute as freshman forward Joey Roth headed in a crossing pass from freshman midfielder Nick Marino after a lead pass by sophomore midfielder Rafai Sanjuan. Roth's header snuck inside the left post to send the squads to the intermission tied at 1-1
- The Blue & Grey took a 2-1 lead in the 73rd minute when graduate student forward Reed Sturza converted a penalty kick
- The Garnet answered just over a minute later with the equalizer to knot the match at 2-2
- The Greyhounds took four shots in the last nine minutes with three from Struza including a pair on goal that were saved and another blocked
Inside the Numbers
- Roth's goal was the first of his career while Marino and Sanjuan each picked their first career assists
- Sturza netted seventh goal for Moravian and first since the 2021 season
- Graduate student Christian Beebe made six saves in the contest
