BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's tennis team opened the fall portion of the 2021-22 season with a non-conference match against Alvernia University on Sunday afternoon as the Greyhounds claimed a 5-4 victory, giving the Director of Tennis Mariana Freitas her first career win as a head coach.
How It Happened
- Moravian led 2-1 after doubles action with the Greyhounds picking up points at first and third doubles. Junior Andrew Hozza and freshman Ronny Pimentel Ferrer earned an 8-2 victory at third doubles then freshmen Zachary Lebby and Anthony Ronca defeated the Golden Wolves at first doubles
- Alvernia captured the first singles match to tie the contest at 2-2 before junior Hozza posted a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at sixth singles too
- Junior Kieran Pisani earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory at fourth singles to extend Moravian's lead to 4-2, but Alvernia won another match at third singles to pull within one point
- Both Pimentel Ferrer and Ronca would head into third sets at fifth and second singles respectively, with Ronca clinching the victory for the Greyhounds by a match score of 4-6, 7-6(7-3), 6-0
- Freitas earned her first career win as a head coach with today's victory after seven seasons as a Moravian assistant
