Greyhounds Fall to Stevenson in Hard-Fought Match in Breidegam Fieldhouse

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's tennis team fell to visiting Stevenson (Md.) University, 6-3, in a hard-fought non-conference contest played in Timothy Breidegam Fieldhouse Sunday due to the temperature and wind. 

How It Happened

  • The Mustangs had a 2-1 lead after doubles action as Stevenson won both first and second doubles in tiebreakers. The Greyhounds had opened up a 1-0 edge with the third doubles duo of freshmen Zachary Lebby and Ronny Pimentel Ferrer earning an 8-4 lead to begin the match
  • Stevenson won the first singles match to complete at third single to open a 3-1 advantage. Freshman Anthony Ronca pulled Moravian within a point at 3-2 when he won his first singles match (6-4, 4-3 by retirement); however, the Mustangs earned a three-set triumph at second singles to go ahead 4-2
  • Stevenson earned the winning team point with a straight sets victory at fourth singles, and the Mustangs also won at sixth singles. In the sixth singles contest, Moravian sophomore Steve Schneider forced a third set before falling 18-16 in the super-tiebreaker with the match already decided
  • The Greyhounds earned the final point of the day at fifth singles where freshman Wyatt Marshall picked up his first collegiate victory, winning in three sets with a 10-7 score in the third-set super-tiebreaker for the triumph
