Greyhounds Softball Selects Goetz, Kane & Wehr as 2020 Team Captains

Moravian softball names Lauren Goetz, Maura Kane and Brooke Wehr as 2020 team captains.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College softball squad has selected senior Lauren Goetz and juniors Maura Kane and Brooke Wehr as its team captains for the 2020 season.

"Our three captains have natural leadership qualities, both on and off the field, that are respected by players and coaches alike," commented Head Coach John Byrne, who is entering his 27th season leading the Greyhounds. "They understand and embrace the tradition of Moravian Softball and are communicating that message daily to their teammates."

Goetz, who sees action at first base and in the outfield, has 80 career hits to go with 52 runs, 21 doubles, 14 home runs, 80 RBIs, 26 walks and a .313 batting average in 101 career games, and she has added 321 putouts and 55 assists in the field. Goetz was selected to the 2019 Landmark All-Conference Second Team and the Landmark All-Conference First Team in both 2017 and 2018 as a utility player.

Wehr, a catcher in her second year as a team captain, is a two-time Landmark All-Conference First Team honoree, making it as a catcher in 2019 and an outfielder in 2018. Wehr, who is also a two-time selection to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Atlantic Region Third Team, has 106 hits, 92 runs, 16 doubles, three triples, 19 home runs, 69 RBIs, 17 walks and a .369 batting average in just 80 career games. She has also collected 149 putouts and 15 assists while throwing out four runners.

Kane, an infielder, has three hits and an RBI in her career.

The Greyhounds are slated to start the 2020 campaign on Sunday, March 1 when the squad plays John Carroll (Ohio) University and Illinois College at the PFX Spring Games at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida.
