BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team fell to The Catholic University of America, 62-38, in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall Saturday afternoon.
The Greyhounds slip to 12-7 overall and 4-4 in Landmark Conference contests this winter. Junior guard Maddie Capuano paced the Hounds with 10 points as she moved past 1,100 career points, and she added two assists and two steals in the game. Junior guard Karlie Brogan tossed in eight points to go along with three rebounds and two assists while senior guard/forward Emily Walls had five points, six rebounds and three blocked shots.
Junior forward Nadine Ewald contributed four points and nine rebounds as she moved up to 13th in school history with 578 career boards. Sophomore guard Jennifer McClave added four points, five rebounds and four assists while freshman guard Kayla Yoegel added four points and two boards. Freshman guard Linnaea Leister netted two points while senior forward Ariana Caiati grabbed five rebounds. Senior guard/forward Caitlin Flanagan and freshman guard Alix Buskirk each had two rebounds.
Moravian connected on 13-of-68 field goal attempts, 5-of-23 three-pointers and 7-of-14 free throws on the afternoon, and the Greyhounds did have a 23-13 edge in offensive rebounds in the game.
The Cardinals opened the scoring with a pair of free throws before a three-pointer from Capuano had the Greyhounds up 3-2. Catholic scored the next six points in the game and would lead the rest of the way. Brogan hit a three-pointer with 3:41 left in the first quarter to cut the Blue and Grey's deficit to seven points, 17-10, but the Cardinals scored the last eight points of the period to lead 25-10 after 10 minutes of action.
The closest Moravian would get in the second quarter was within 11 on two occasions, the second after a jumper from Ewald at 4:54 cut the score to 30-19; however, Catholic had a 38-23 lead at the intermission and 51-36 after 30 minutes of action.
The Hounds are slated to return to the hardwood on Wednesday, January 30 when the squad travels to Madison, New Jersey for a Landmark Conference contest tipping off at 7:00 p.m.
