MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team put four players in double figures and scored 64 points over the final 30 minutes of action in a 75-62 Landmark Conference victory at Drew University Wednesday evening.
The Greyhounds improve to 13-7 on the season and 5-4 in Landmark Conference play with the triumph.
Junior guard Karlie Brogan had 20 points, six rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists while junior guard Maddie Capuano also scored 20 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocked shots as she moved into 18th in school history with 1,121 points. Junior forward Nadine Ewald contributed 16 points, nine boards and five steals while sophomore guard Jennifer McClave added 11 points, two assists and a pair of steals.
Senior guard/forward Emily Walls tossed in six points to go with three rebounds while senior guard Tyis Mullen had two points and freshman guard Kayla Yoegel grabbed a career-best five rebounds to go with a pair of assists.
Moravian connected on 21-of-43 field goal attempts, 5-of-9 three-pointers and 28-of-35 free throws in the victory, and the Greyhounds also had a 35-27 edge on the boards.
Capuano opened the game with a jumper before Drew scored four points. The Blue and Grey moved back ahead 6-4 on two free throws from Capuano and a lay-up by Ewald, but a three-pointer and a lay-up had the Rangers ahead 9-6 with 2:21 left in the opening period. Ewald hit on two free throws and Capuano finished the period with a three-pointer as Moravian led 11-9 after 10 minutes of action.
The Hounds scored the first four points of the second quarter on free throws from Ewald and Capuano to push the lead to 15-9, and two free throws by Brogan had the Greyhounds leading 21-10 with 6:26 remaining until the intermission. In the final 31 seconds of the half, McClave connected on a three-pointer and Brogan hit two more free throws to send Moravian to the locker room with a 34-21 edge. The Blue and Grey went 12-for-12 at the charity stripe in the opening 20 minutes of play.
Capuano started the third quarter with a jumper, and McClave followed with another three-pointer to push the Greyhounds' lead to 39-21, and a lay-up from Walls had the edge at 20 points, 46-26, with 6:18 to go in the period. Moravian kept its lead for the rest of the quarter and was up 54-35 after 30 minutes of action.
McClave opened the fourth quarter with another three-pointer for a 22-point edge, 57-35, the Blue and Grey's largest of the night. Drew would slowly close the gap but didn't get any closer than 10 points in the remainder of the contest.
The Hounds are slated to return to the hardwood on Saturday, February 2 when they travel to Huntingdon, Pennsylvania for a Landmark Conference contest at Juniata College tipping off at 2:00 p.m.
