Donati's Career High 18 Points Leads Hounds Past Lancaster Bible in Season Opener

LANCASTER, Pa. --- Senior guard Sarah Donati scored a career high 18 points on six three-pointers to lead the Moravian College women's basketball team to a 65-45 win at Lancaster Bible College on Saturday afternoon in the Greyhounds only non-conference contest of the abbreviated 2020-21 season.

Saturday's game was the first-ever meeting between the Hounds and the Chargers

  • Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk, who is in her 34th season leading the Greyhounds: "We were obviously grateful to be playing and thankful for everyone who made it possible. We played as a team and received contributions from several different players. Sarah Donati was on fire and we were able to get the ball to her. Sam Osorio with a double-double in her first collegiate game was nice to see."

How It Happened

  • Moravian trailed 4-0 and 7-6 before scoring the final three points of the first quarter to lead 9-7 after 10 minutes of action
  • The Greyhounds extended the run to 11-2 to push out to a 17-9 lead with 6:40 left in the second quarter. The Blue & Grey headed to the locker room with a 27-21 advantage
  • Moravian would outscore the Chargers 25-11 in the third quarter to stretch the advantage to 52-32 after 30 minutes of play

Firsts for the Hounds

  • Donati, junior guard Alix Buskirk and freshman forward Sam Osorio each made their first start for the Greyhounds
  • Donati reached double figures for the first time in her career
  • Osorio recorded the first double-double of her collegiate career with 14 points and 13 rebounds
  • Freshmen guard Reganne Flannery (8 points), guard/forward Sara Geary (6 points) and forward Gracie Hezel (1 point) all scored in their first collegiate action 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian was just 4-for-17 from the floor in the first quarter before going 20-for-41 the rest of the game
  • The Greyhounds had 20 assists on 24 made baskets
  • The Hounds forced 20 turnovers including six team turnovers (shot clock & 10-second violations) while only committing 13 turnovers
  • The Blue & Grey had edges in points in the paint (26 to 14), points off of turnovers (14 to 5), second chance points (11 to 8), fast break points (6 to 0) and bench scoring (15 to 0)
  • Sophomore guard Morgan Amy had a career high nine assists
  • Junior guard Kayla Yoegel netted 12 points, her 11th career game in double digits
  • Donati became just the sixth Greyhound to make six three-pointers in a game, joining current assistant coach Amy Endler '93Kim Hughes '04 (broke Endler's record with seven in a game in 2002), Amanda Brown '10Danielle Brogan '14 and Maddie Capuano '20, who hit a school record eight three-pointers twice to go with a game of six
