Hounds Fall to Catholic in Final Game of Homestand in Johnston Hall

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team fell to visiting The Catholic University of America, 61-54, in Landmark Conference action Friday evening as the Greyhounds finished off a three-game homestand in Johnston Hall.

How It Happened

  • The Cardinals scored the game's opening points before Moravian took a 4-2 lead on a three-pointer from junior guard Kayla Yoegel. With the score tied at 6-6, the Greyhounds went on a 7-0 run with sophomore guard Jackie Kelly giving the Hounds a 13-6 lead with just over three minutes left in the period. Yoegel would drain another three-pointer with 12 seconds left in the quarter as the Blue and Grey led 20-13 after 10 minutes of action
  • Freshman forward Sam Osorio hit a lay-up with just over eight minutes left in the second quarter as Moravian led 22-15. A little over two minutes later, sophomore guard Morgan Amy connected on a three-pointer for the Greyhounds for a 25-19 edge; however, that would be the Hounds' final points of the half as Catholic finished on a 7-0 run to head to the locker room with a 26-25 lead
  • In the third quarter, the Cardinals pushed their lead up to seven points at 36-29 before the Blue and Grey began to chip away. Kelly would drain a three-pointer with 44 seconds left in the period as the squads were tied at 41-41 after 30 minutes of play
  • Catholic started the fourth quarter by pulling ahead by four points but the Hounds eventually knotted the score at 48-48 with 6:09 to go on a three-point play by Yoegel. The Cardinals answered with an 11-3 run to take control

Firsts for the Hounds

  • Kelley reached double digits for the first time in her career, netting 12 points for Moravian

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had three players in double figures with Yoegel netting a team-high 14 points and Osorio joining Kelly with 12 points
  • The Blue and Grey struggled shooting from the floor for the second straight game, making just 19-of-62 field goal attempts (30.6 percent). The Hounds were 7-for-14 from the field in the first quarter and then 12-for-48 the rest of the night
  • For the fifth straight game this winter, Moravian had few turnovers than its opponent as the Blue and Grey forced 24 turnovers while committing 23 miscues
