Greyhounds Top Goucher in Landmark Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's tennis team topped visiting Goucher College, 5-2, in Landmark Conference action in Timothy Breidegam Fieldhouse Saturday.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds won two of the three doubles contests to clinch the doubles point. Junior Izzy Szmodis and sophomore Leah Zolotareva won at first doubles when one of the Gophers had to retire due to an injury, and the tandem of freshmen Nicole Kalorin and Ali Willis captured a 7-5 victory at second doubles
  • The Blue & Grey captured four singles matches to seal the victory. With the injury in doubles forcing Goucher to forfeit at sixth singles, Moravian led 2-0 when Zolotareva finished off a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at first singles to make it 3-0. Szmodis clinched the match with a 6-1, 7-5 win at second singles while sophomore Sydney Shifman pushed the lead to 5-0 with a 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory at third singles. Kalorin fell in a three-set match at fourth singles to end the contest
