Men's Soccer Falls in Home Opener

The DeSales University men's soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and posted a 5-0 victory over host Moravian College in non-conference action Friday afternoon on the HUB Quad as both teams opened the 2011 season in the Moravian/Muhlenberg Tournament.

The Bulldogs would get a hat trick from senior forward Jonathan Balfour as well as goals from junior midfielder Steve Krause and junior forward Alec Dimitriadis. Senior midfielder Sky Rimmele had a pair of assists for DeSales while senior midfielder Matthew Germscheid and senior midfielder Matt Murphy each had one assist.

DeSales had an 18-7 advantage in shots with Moravian sophomore midfielder/forward Jeffrey Algor, pictured, leading the Greyhounds with two shots. The Bulldogs also had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Moravian junior goalie Mike Brand had six saves in his first collegiate start while sophomore keeper Mike Thompson also had six saves for DeSales.

The Greyhounds will host SUNY Cortland on Saturday, September 3rd at 4:00 p.m. in the second day of the tournament while DeSales heads over to Muhlenberg for a 6:00 p.m. match.
