Rowan Defeats Moravian

The Moravian College men's soccer team fell to Rowan University Wednesday night, 4-1, in non-conference action. Junior midfielder John Pavia scored the lone goal for the Greyhounds.

The Profs got on the board just three minutes into the game with a goal from freshman forward Christian Fountain. The Greyhounds would battle hard the rest of the half, and enter intermission down 1-0.

Rowan would push the score to 2-0 with a goal from senior forward Joe Parella just three minutes into the second half. Senior defender Zach Zahrend would make it 3-0 with a penalty kick goal in the 56th minute.

Greyhound sophomore midfielder Eric Paone had a chance to put one on the board, but he hit his shot of the crossbar at the 65th minute. Two minutes later junior midfielder Pavia would net the first goal for Moravian off an assist from senior Mark Casagrande. The Griffins would push the lead to 4-1 two minutes later with Parella's second goal of the game.

Moravian's junior goalkeeper Mike Brand made three saves in 80 minutes of play. Freshman goalie Ethan Arner finished the game without a shot on goal.

The Profs had the edge in shots, 15-14, but the Greyhounds held the edge in corner kicks 4-3.

The Greyhounds return to action Saturday, October 8 when they host conference rival Juniata College at the HUB Quad. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
