MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team is tied for fifth in the 2011 Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.
The United States Merchant Marine Academy was picked first in the poll with 74 points, seven points ahead of second place and two-time defending Landmark Conference Champion The Catholic University of America with 67 points. Drew University was selected third with 62 points while Susquehanna University was fourth with 59 points. The Greyhounds and The University of Scranton each received 32 points to tie for fifth and were followed by Juniata College in seventh place with 20 points and Goucher College in eighth place with 18 points.
The Moravian College men's soccer team has high expectations going into the 2011 season with the return of ten letterwinners and six starters. Third-year head coach Todd Ervin looks to improve on a 5-12-1 mark and looks to challenge for a Landmark Conference playoff berth. The Greyhounds leading returning scorer is sophomore midfielder/forward Jeffrey Algor (Spring Lake Heights, N.J./Manasquan HS), pictured at right, who had five goals for ten points in his collegiate debut last fall.
The Greyhounds begin their 2011 season on Friday, September 2nd when they host DeSales University on the Hub Quad at 4:00 p.m. in the opening round of the Moravian/Muhlenberg Tournament. Moravian will begin Landmark Conference action on Saturday, September 24th at Catholic in a 1:00 p.m. match.
