Greyhounds Come Up Short Versus Juniata

Senior midfielder Luke Waddell scored in the 12th minute to lead the Juniata College men's soccer team to a 1-0 Landmark Conference victory over host Moravian College Saturday afternoon on the HUB Quad.

Waddell scored his second goal of the season on the Eagles' third shot of the contest as junior midfielder Greg Hess settled a loose ball that Waddell fired from the top left side of the box into the lower right corner of the net. Waddell had another shot two minutes later but Greyhounds junior goalie Mike Brand made a save.

Moravian had a pair of good scoring chances in the first half with junior midfielder/forward John Pavia shooting wide after a free kick in the 17th minute, and sophomore midfielder/defender Greg Hargrave, pictured at left, taking a free kick that Juniata junior goalie Ezra Cassel needed to save.

Waddell would get off the first shot of the second half, forcing Brand to make another save. Brand would stop the Eagles' sophomore forward Dane Azeles in the 70th minute. Moravian sophomore midfielder/forward Jeffrey Algor took a free kick that Cassel needed to save at the crossbar in the 71st minute before Pavia got a shot that Cassel needed to save in the 72nd minute.

Juniata finished the contest with a 21-9 advantage in shots while the Greyhounds had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks with all five coming in the second half. Brand finished with ten saves for Moravian while Cassel had five saves for the Eagles.
