Schlosbon & Carisone Honored by Landmark Conference

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College sophomore right fielder Mary Schlosbon and freshman hurler Amanda Carisone have been named the Landmark Conference Softball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week for their performances last week.

The duo helped the Greyhounds post an 8-0 record during the week at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida including winning three games in extra innings. Moravian returned from its Spring Break trip with an 8-2 overall mark.

Schlosbon led the Hounds with a .455 batting average last week including 10 hits in 22 at-bats to go with three RBIs. She scored eight runs and also drew three walks for a .520 on-base percentage, and she added a stolen base. Schlosbon hit safely in six games last week including a 3-for-3 performance in a 12-1 win over Manhattanville College. Schlosbon also made five putouts from her right field position.

"Mary did a very good job last week of getting on base when we needed a runner and then working herself around into scoring position," commented Head Coach John Byrne. "Mary's speed in the outfield was also an assist, limiting any chances for extra base hits when balls made it into the outfield.

Carisone was 4-0 in the circle with a 0.22 ERA and three shutouts while tossing three extra-inning games for a total of 32 innings during the week. Carisone allowed just three runs, one earned, on 19 hits and two walks while striking out 19 batters. She began the week with a 3-0, nine-inning win over Salve Regina (R.I.) University that included five strikeouts, and then she tossed a 4-3, eight-inning victory over Berry (Ga.) College with four strikeouts and no walks. Carisone added seven strikeouts and no walks in a 1-0 win over SUNY Oneonta, and she finished the week with a 1-0, eight-inning victory versus Haverford College that included one walk and three strikeouts.

"Amanda had a great start to her collegiate career in Florida," stated Byrne. "She faced some very good teams and showed what she is capable of in the circle."

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action in a non-conference doubleheader at Neumann University that has been moved to Thursday, March 19 beginning at 3:00 p.m.
