Greyhounds Jump to No. 17 in This Week's NFCA Top 25 Poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The Moravian College softball team jumped up seven spots to 17th in the nation this week in the 12th National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Poll of the season.

The Greyhounds, the 2015 Landmark Conference Champions and 34-5 overall, received 59 points in the poll, moving up from 24th last week after being in the receiving votes category the prior week. Head Coach John Byrne, who earned his 700th career win on April 25, has led the program to its 16th 30-win season in the last 22 years and two winning streaks this year of at least 14 games.

Moravian jumped ahead of No. 18 Fontbonne (Mo.) University in the poll by three points, and the two schools met in the season-opener at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida with Fontbonne capturing a 9-8 win in 10 innings after the Hounds had a late lead during the regulation seven innings.

The Blue & Grey, which was ranked second in the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region in the final regular season rankings, swept No. 23 Ramapo College of New Jersey, 7-1 and 11-3 in five innings, and defeated Berry (Ga.) College, 4-3 in eight innings in Florida, and received votes in this week's poll.

The Greyhounds will return to action as the top seed in the 2015 NCAA Division III Regional in Rochester, New York on Friday, May 8. Moravian will take on third seed Penn State-Berks in the opening game of the regional slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, and the Hounds will play host and second seed Rochester at 4:00 p.m.
