Hounds Heading to Rochester for NCAA Regional

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The No. 24 ranked Moravian College softball team is heading to the University of Rochester for the 2015 NCAA Division III Softball National Championship Regionals beginning on Friday, May 8, and the Greyhounds are the top seed in the three-team regional and begin play at 11:00 a.m. Friday against Penn State-Berks, which won the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship.

The action on Friday continues with host Rochester (27-11), the Liberty League Champion, playing Penn State-Berks (19-12) at 1:30 p.m. and then the Greyhounds taking on Rochester at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, if all three teams are 1-1 after the first day, Rochester and Penn State-Berks will play at 11:00 a.m. with the winner to play Moravian at 1:30 p.m. for a berth in the Super Regionals on May 15-16.

If one team is eliminated from the double elimination tournament on Friday, then Saturday's schedule will have an opening game at 11:00 a.m. and an if necessary contest at 1:30 p.m. to determine the team to advance. The eight Super Regional winners will advance to the NCAA Division III World Series in Salem, Virginia from May 21-26 a the Moyer Sports Complex.

Moravian Head Coach John Byrne has guided the Greyhounds to a 34-5 mark this season, and the Hounds earned an automatic berth by capturing the 2015 Landmark Conference Championship on Saturday after winning three must-win games. The Hounds are making their 15th NCAA Division III Tournament appearance and their first since 2012.

Byrne, who is 709-218 in 22 seasons, has led the program to a 35-29 mark in NCAA Tournament action, and the Greyhounds won NCAA Regional titles in 2004, 2007 and 2010 for berths in the NCAA Division III World Series. Moravian played for the national title in 2004, finishing as the runner-up.
