Softball Ranked No. 24 in Latest NFCA DIII Top 25 Poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The Moravian College softball team has moved up to 24th in the nation this week in the 11th National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Poll of the season.

The Greyhounds, winners of 15 straight and 30-4 overall, received 21 points in the poll, moving up from the receiving votes category last week. Head Coach John Byrne, who earned his 700th career win last Saturday, has led the program to its 16th 30-win season in the last 22 years and two winning streaks this year of at least 14 games.

The Blue & Grey trails No. 23 Fontbonne (Mo.) University in the poll by six points, and the two schools met in the season-opener at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida with Fontbonne capturing a 9-8 win in 10 innings after the Hounds had a late lead during the regulation seven innings.

Moravian, which was ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region, defeated Berry (Ga.) College, 4-3 in eight innings in Florida, and swept Ramapo College of New Jersey, 7-1 and 11-3 in five innings, and both Berry and Ramapo received votes in this week's poll.

The Greyhounds will return to action as the second seed in the 2015 Landmark Conference Tournament on Friday, May 1 at top seed Susquehanna University. Moravian will take on third seed The Catholic University of America in the second game of the tournament slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
