Women's Tennis Opens Spring with 5-4 Win vs. Howard Payne

ORLANDO, Fla. --- The Moravian College women's tennis team opened its 2015 spring season with a 5-4 victory over Howard Payne (Texas) University at Fort Gatlin Courts in Orlando, Florida Sunday morning to improve to 3-0 overall on the year.

The Greyhounds had a 2-1 lead after the doubles action. Senior Sophia Osbourne and freshman Skylar Oliwa combined for an 8-3 victory at second doubles while the duo of junior Courtnie Lambert and freshman Caitlin Adams posted an 8-4 win at third doubles.

The Hounds and Yellow Jackets split the six singles matches as the Greyhounds reached the five points needed for the team victory. Sophomore Brittney Eady earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at first singles while Osbourne posted a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at second singles. Oliwa picked up the final victory with a three-set, 6-3, 0-6, 1-0 (10-4) win at fourth singles. Adams and sophomore Roberta Scantlebury each forced third sets in their fifth and sixth singles contests before falling in a super tiebreaker.

Moravian will return to action on Monday, March 9 in a non-conference match versus Berry (Ga.) College at Lake Cane Courts in Orlando beginning at 7:00 p.m.
