Joint Wins Long Jump to Lead Men at Coach P Open

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team hosted the 4th Annual Coach P Open in memory of former Head Coach Doug Pollard Saturday at Rocco Calvo Field & Timothy Breidegam Track. This year's non-scoring meet featured 29 teams and nearly 2,000 entries in the invitational.

Moravian turned in seven ECAC Division III Championship qualifying marks with junior Kristopher Joint winning the long jump with an ECAC qualifying leap of 7.05 meters (23 feet, 1 ¾ inches), a distance that moves him to fifth on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list that will have the top 20 individuals and top 16 relay teams at the end of the season in each event heading to the NCAA Division III National Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Freshman Gavin Bailey was fourth in the long jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 6.81 meters (22 feet, 4 ¼ inches) while freshman Albert Myers took fifth at an ECAC qualifying distance of 6.74 meters (22 feet, 1 ½ inches). Senior Jonathan Heberling was seventh in the long jump at 6.65 meters (21 feet, ten inches), and he tied for eighth in the high jump at 1.83 meters (six feet).

Senior Travis King finished second in the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying mark or 14.21 meters (46 feet, 7 ½ inches).

 On the track, Moravian's 4x100-meter relay squad of Bailey, Myers, senior Justin Taylor and sophomore Travis Dorsa placed sixth with an ECAC qualifying time of 43.01 seconds. Junior David Cariello was fifth in the 110-meter high hurdles in an ECAC qualifying time of 15.41 seconds after reaching the final tied for seventh at 15.93. Myers took seventh in the 100-meter dash with an ECAC qualifying mark of 11.04 seconds after reaching the final in eighth at 11.38 seconds.

Sophomore Dillon Farrell was the runner-up in the 1,500-meter run in 4:03.00 while sophomore Alec Duncan was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:48.53. Senior Donald Noble was eighth in the 800-meter run in 1:58.41.

In the throwing events Saturday, sophomore Frank Yannotta finished fifth in the discus with a toss of 39.32 meters (129 feet) while sophomore Jeffrey Gallagher was tenth at 38.40 meters (126 feet. Yannotta also placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 12.84 meters (42 feet, 1 ½ inches) while freshman Jacob Fritz was ninth at 12.71 meters (41 feet, 8 ½ inches).

Freshman Ryan Karnopp and Cariello were tied for seventh in the pole vault at 4.10 meters (13 feet, 5 ¼ inches).

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Friday and Saturday, April 19th and 20th when the host the Greyhound Invitational at the Timothy Breidegam Track & Rocco Calvo Field.
