Noble Sets School Record in 5K; Men in 2nd after Opening Day of ECAC Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --- Senior Donald Noble set a school record of 14:37.43 while winning the 5,000-meter run to lead the Moravian College men's track & field team to second place of 37 teams scoring points on the opening day of the 2013 ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Springfield College Thursday.

Noble's ten points helped the Greyhounds to a team score of 26 points after one day of competition. Tufts University is in first place after the opening eight events with a team total of 34.33 while Bates College in third with 25 points and SUNY Cortland is fourth at 24.33 points.

Noble's time was over nine seconds faster than his previous career best and broke the school record by 3.09 seconds. The time is the 33rd best time in the nation this season but only the top 20 competitors will run in next week's NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Junior Timothy Lorah was the runner-up in the javelin with a toss of 60.17 meters (197 feet, five inches) to earn eight points for Moravian while senior Tyler Potterton was fourth at 58.35 meters (191 feet, five inches) to earn another five points for the Greyhounds.

Senior Travis King earned Moravian's final three points on the opening day of the ECAC Championships with a sixth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 14.35 meters (47 feet, one inch).

Junior David Cariello was ninth in 110-meter high hurdle preliminaries in a season best time of 14.91 seconds which is tied for 30th best in the country this season. Sophomore Alec Duncan was 12th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:53.91 while freshman Albert Myers was 24th in the 100-meter dash preliminaries in 11.11 seconds.

Freshman Ryan Karnopp had a season best height of 4.51 meters (14 feet, 9 1/2 inches) in the pole vault to finish 11th.

Moravian will return to action on the second day of the ECAC Division III Championships on Friday, May 17th beginning at 10:00 a.m.
