TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University junior Bryan Kerchner has been selected as the Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.
Kerchner was third of the 188 runners at the Lebanon Valley College Invitational with a time 25:26.7 on the 8,000-meter course at Union Canal Tunnel Park that will host the Landmark Conference Championship race in November. Moravian finished third of 17 teams in the meet.
"We had the rest of the team scale back their efforts for this meet since we're racing again this upcoming weekend, but with Bryan missing last week with an illness, we let him go ahead and race," explained Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "He was aggressive from the start and went right to the lead pack. He may have still been feeling the effects of last week's illness as he didn't feel as strong over the last 2k as he typically does, but he still managed to run within tenths of a second of his lifetime best and finished 3rd in a strong field. As long as Bryan stays healthy, he's going to make some appreciable gains this season from what was already a promising start to his season!"
The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Saturday, September 14 at the Stockton University Osprey Open beginning at 11:15 a.m.
