Greyhounds Race Past Dolphins in Non-Conference Action

RIVERDALE, N.Y. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team raced past host The University of Mount Saint Vincent, 16-6, in non-conference action Saturday.

How It Happened

  • The Dolphins netted the opening goal of the match before the Greyhounds got on the scoreboard just over two minutes into action as junior midfielder Alex Cherenson scored. Junior midfielder Madi Dippel gave the Blue & Grey a 2-1 lead 45 seconds later while Mount Saint Vincent tied the match with 11:15 left in the first quarter. Moravian scored three straight goals with two by sophomore midfielder Victoria Salica and one from sophomore midfielder Gianna Lotito to take the lead for good. The Dolphins score once more before senior defender Keara Reilly netted a goal with less than two minutes on the clock as Moravian led 6-3 after 15 minutes of action
  • Moravian scored the only six goals of the second quarter with junior attack Jackie Salvatore netting three goals, Cherenson scoring twice and Dippel adding a goal as the Blue & Grey headed to the intermission with a 12-3 advantage
  • Each squad scored twice in the third period with Dippel and Lotito tallying goals for the Hounds
  • Dippel and Cherenson both scored once in the fourth quarter to finish the scoring

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had seven players register a point with Dippel contributing four goals and two assists to go along with six ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Cherenson also netted four goals to go with an assist, six draw controls, five ground balls and two caused turnovers while Salvatore had three goals, an assist and two ground balls
  • Lotito contributed two goals, an assists, three caused turnovers and two ground balls while Salica had a pair of goals
  • Reilly had a goal, seven caused turnovers and five ground balls while freshman midfielder Melissa Elefonte registered two assists and three ground balls
  • Sophomore goalie Kayla Graef made two saves and had a pair of ground balls in the first half while freshman goalie Elle Burd added three saves in the second half
  • The Hounds had a 37-13 advantage in shots and were 16-for-18 on clears in the contest
