Moravian Falls at Drew as Dippel Reaches 100 Career Goals

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse squad fell to host Drew University, 20-16, in Landmark Conference action on the road Wednesday evening.

How It Happened

  • The Rangers opened the scoring just 46 seconds into the match while freshman attack Melissa Elefonte evened the score at 1-1 just over a minute later with the Hounds down a player. Drew netted a pair of goals before sophomore midfielder Gianna Lotito hit the cage for the Blue & Grey. The Rangers extended the advantage to 5-2 before junior midfielder Madi Dippel scored twice to get the Greyhounds back within a goal. Drew netted the final tally of the first period to lead 6-4 after 15 minutes of action
  • Moravian began the second quarter with three goals in the first two and a half minutes with junior attack Jackie Salvatore, junior midfielder Alex Cherenson and Lotito each finding the net to give the Hounds a 7-6 lead. However, the Rangers countered with four goals to take a 10-7 edge into the intermission
  • Dippel opened the second half with a goal before Drew scored to make 11-8. Dippel and Salvatore followed with goals to get the Blue & Grey within a goal at 11-10 while the Rangers scored to push it back to a two-goal advantage. Freshman midfielder Bailey Leatherman and Dippel found the net as Moravian knotted the contest at 12-12 with 5:22 left in the third quarter. Drew countered once again with a trio of goals to move ahead 15-12 before Dippel added another goal, the 100th of her career, for the Hounds to make it 15-13 at the end of the third quarter
  • Salvatore scored to open the fourth quarter to pull the Blue & Grey within a goal again while the Rangers scored three straight goals to push it 18-14 midway through the period. Salvatore stopped the run, but Drew would score twice more before Leatherman netted the final goal of the match in the last minute of action 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had six players scored points in the match with Dippel netting six goals to go with wo assists, five ground balls, three draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Salvatore finished with four goals, five assists, six draw controls and two ground balls while Lotito and Leatherman both netted two goals with Lotito adding three draw controls
  • Cherenson recorded a goal, an assist and three draw controls while Elefonte had one goal
  • Sophomore goalie Kayla Graef recorded seven saves in the first half of the match while freshman Elle Burd added six saves in the final 30 minutes of the contest
