Hounds Rally Past FDU-Florham in Overtime

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team rallied from a five-goal second quarter deficit to record an 18-17 overtime victory at FDU-Florham in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon. 

How It Happened

  • The Devils scored the first three goals of the contest before junior midfielder Madi Dippel got the Greyhounds on the scoreboard. Junior midfielder Alex Cherenson netted a goal to pull the Hounds within a goal at 3-2, but FDU-Florham scored twice to put the edge back at three goals. Junior attack Jackie Salvatore found the goal with just under a minute and a half to play in the opening quarter as the Devils led 5-3 after 15 minutes of action
  • FDU-Florham ran off three straight goals to begin the second period to stretch its advantage to 8-3. Salvatore tallied a goal before the Devils scored again. Freshman midfielder Bailey Leatherman scored for Moravian while Dippel netted a goal with just two seconds left in the half as the squads headed to the intermission with the Devils leading 9-6
  • The Greyhounds began the second half with two goals from Cherenson and one from sophomore midfielder Victoria Salica to knot the match at 9-9 with ten and a half minutes to play in the third quarter. FDU-Florham scored twice to move back ahead by a pair of goals before Leatherman netted a goal. After the Devils scored, the Blue & Grey ran off three straight goals with two from freshman attack Melissa Elefonte and one by Dippel as the Hounds led 13-12. FDU-Florham added a late goal, however, Salica found the net with just eight seconds left in the quarter to give Moravian a 14-13 edge after 45 minutes of play
  • Salvatore scored the first goal of the fourth quarter to push the Greyhounds' advantage to 15-13, but the Devils countered with a pair of goals to knot the match at 15-15. Freshman midfielder Reagan Reiner put Moravian back on top, 16-15, with 8:13 left in the contest. FDU-Florham countered with two goals to move ahead 17-16 before Dippel tied the contest with 3:49 remaining to force overtime
  • Salvatore needed just 41 seconds to score on a free position shot for the victory 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had seven players record a point with Salvatore contributing four goals and two assists to go with eight draw controls
  • Dippel also netted four goals to go along with an assist, seven draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers while Cherenson scored a hat trick with six draw controls and two ground balls
  • Elefonte and Leatherman each had two goals and an assist while Salica registered two goals
  • Reiner scored once to go with two ground balls
  • Sophomore goalie Kayla Graef made six saves for the Hounds
