Greyhounds Drop Landmark Conference Match at Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team dropped a 22-9 decision in Landmark Conference action at The Catholic University of America Saturday. 

How It Happened

  • The Cardinals scored the opening goal just 25 seconds into the contest, and Catholic opened a 5-0 lead in the first period. The Greyhounds scored twice in the final 32 seconds of the quarter with goals from freshman midfielder Reagan Reiner and junior midfielder Madi Dippel to cut the deficit to 5-2 after 15 minutes of action
  • The Hounds would get within a goal to start the second quarter as junior midfielder Alex Cherenson scored with a player advantage for the 100th goal of her career and freshman attack Melissa Elefonte netted a goal. However, the Cardinals countered with three straight markers to push the edge back to four at 8-4. Elefonte scored again while Catholic added two more goals to head to the intermission with a 10-5 lead
  • The Cardinals began the second half with a pair of goals to make the advantage 12-5. Moravian responded with three goals, one each from junior attack Jackie Salvatore, sophomore midfielder Gianna Lotito and Cherenson to cut it to 12-8. Catholic stopped the run with a goal before Cherenson found the net with a little over six minutes left in the third quarter to make it 13-9. The Cardinals netted one more goal in the period to lead 14-9 after 45 minutes of play
  • Catholic scored eight times in the final quarter while keeping the Hounds scoreless for the period 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had six players register a point in the match with Cherenson netting a hat trick to go along with three draw controls and a pair of ground balls
  • Elefonte finished with two goals and two assists while Salvatore had a goal, two assists and four draw controls
  • Reiner, Dippel and Lotito each netted one goal with Dippel adding three draw controls and two ground balls and Reiner recording a pair of draw controls
  • Sophomore goalie Kayla Graef posted 11 saves and scooped up three ground balls while junior midfielder Isabellla Ziccardi had two ground balls
