Moravian Falls to No. 23 Haverford in Final Non-Conference Match of 2024 as Salvatore Reaches 100 Points for the Season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse squad fell to visiting No. 23 Haverford College, 22-12, in the Hounds' final non-conference match of the 2024 season on John Makuvek Field Wednesday evening.

How It Happened

  • The Fords netted the first two goals of the night before junior midfielder Alex Cherenson got the Hounds on the scoreboard. Haverford scored three more times in the opening period while the Blue & Grey had a pair of goals from freshman attack Melissa Elefonte to have the Fords leading 5-3 after 15 minutes of action
  • Haverford also started the second quarter with a pair of goals before Cherenson tallied a goal with Moravian up a player. The Fords netted five more goals in the period while junior attack Jackie Salvatore and junior midfielder Madi Dippel both had a goal to set the halftime score at 12-6 for Haverford
  • The Fords outscored the Blue & Grey, 6-3 in the third quarter with the Hounds getting two goals from Cherenson and one from Salvatore as Haverford had an 18-9 advantage after 45 minutes of play
  • Cherenson began the fourth quarter with a goal before the Fords scored twice. Elefonte netted another goal with 5:09 to play with Salvatore assisting on the goal for her 100th point of the season, just the third player to score 100 points in a single year at Moravian. Haverford added two more goals while Cherenson beat the final buzzer with the final goal of the contest

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had six players record a point with Cherenson netting six goals to go with four draw controls
  • Salvatore finished with two goals and four assists for six points as she joined Jillian Picciuto '19 and Meaghan McMullan '21 as the only players to net 100 points in a season. Picciuto hit the milestone three times and holds the single season record with 104 points in 2019 while McMullan had 101 points in 2019. Salvatore also had seven draw controls in the match Wednesday
  • Elefonte had a hat trick while Dippel added a goal and eight draw controls
  • Sophomore midfielder Gianna Lotito and freshman midfielder Reagan Reiner each had an assist
  • Senior defender Keara Reilly scooped up a pair of ground balls while sophomore defender Grace Nelson caused a pair of turnovers
  • Sophomore goalie Kayla Graef recorded three saves while playing the first 30 minutes of the contest while freshman goalie Elle Burd added three saves in the second half
  • The Hounds had a 21-15 advantage in draw controls during the contest
