Moravian Races Past Goucher as Three Greyhounds Reach Points Milestones with One School Record

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse squad raced out to a 4-0 first quarter lead on the way to a 23-4 victory over visiting Goucher College on a rainy and windy John Makuvek Field Wednesday as three Greyhounds hit points milestones during the match including one school record.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds took a 1-0 lead four and a half minutes into action as junior attack Jackie Salvatore netted the first of three straight goals. Freshman midfielder Reagan Reiner closed the quarter with a tally to give the Blue & Grey a 4-0 edge after 15 minutes of action
  • Junior midfielder Madi Dippel netted a goal 1:14 into the second period as she became the 13th player in program history to record 100 career points. The Gophers netted the next goal to make it 5-1 before junior midfielder Alex Cherenson scored an unassisted goal to become the 14th Greyhound to 100 career points. Goucher tallied a goal to pull within 6-2 while Salvatore found the net at the 10:22 mark of the second quarter to become the fourth Moravian women's player to reach 200 career points. The Hounds netted five more goals in the second quarter with Salvatore and freshman midfielder Bailey Leatherman both scoring twice and freshman attack Melissa Elefonte netting one goal to send the Greyhounds to the intermission with a 12-2 advantage
  • Goucher opened the second half with a goal just over a minute into action while Moravian countered by Elefonte 20 seconds later. Moravian added two goals from Cherenson and one each by Elefonte, Leatherman and sophomore midfielder Victoria Salica to stretch the lead to 18-3 after 45 minutes of play
  • The Hounds scored three goals to begin the fourth quarter as Leatherman, Dippel and Cherenson each found the net before Goucher scored its final goal. Moravian tacked on two more markers with senior defenders Keara Reilly and Alise Downey both finding the net in the final five minutes with Downey netting the first goal of her career 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had nine players record a point with Salvatore setting the school record with 14 points on seven goals and seven assists to give her 210 career points on 112 goals and 98 assists. Salvatore added ten draw controls
  • Cherenson netted four goals and an assist to give her 104 points, and she had three draw controls and a pair of ground balls while Elefonte registered tree goals, three assists and six ground balls
  • Leatherman contributed three goals while Dippel added two goals and an assist for 102 points, and she had four draw controls, three caused turnovers and two ground balls
  • Salica posted a goal and an assist with four ground balls while Reiner, Reilly and Downey all netted one goal. Reiner also had a pair of draw controls while Reilly added four ground balls and four caused turnovers and Downey scooped up two ground balls
  • Sophomore midfielder Gianna Lotito forced a pair of turnovers for the Blue & Grey
  • Sophomore goalie Kayla Graef made one save and had a pair of ground balls in the first half of the match in goal while freshman goalie Elle Burd recorded one save in the second half
  • The Hounds had a 45-7 advantage in shots, a 28-17 edge in ground balls, a 20-8 lead in draw controls and were 10-for-13 on clearing attempts
