Hounds Score Four Times in Final 1:23 to Rally Past Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team scored four goals in the final 1:23 to rally from a three-goal deficit and defeat host Susquehanna University, 14-13, in Landmark Conference action Thursday evening. 

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds needed just 32 seconds to get onto the scoreboard as junior attack Jackie Salvatore on a free position shot, and Salvatore scored again roughly a minute later for a 2-0 advantage. The River Hawks answered while freshman midfielder Reagan Reiner found the net at the 8:30 mark for a 3-1 edge for the Hounds. After another goal from Susquehanna, junior midfielder Madi Dippel netted a goal to give Moravian a 4-2 lead after 15 minutes of action
  • The River Hawks ran off four straight goals to start the second quarter to take a 6-4 advantage. The Blue & Grey countered with a 3-0 run with a pair of goals from junior midfielder Alex Cherenson and one by freshman midfielder Bailey Leatherman to move back in front 7-6. Susquehanna netted two markers while Salvatore finished the half with a goal to knot the contest at 8-8 at the intermission
  • The River Hawks scored an early goal in the third quarter for a 9-8 edge while Salvatore scored the equalizer with 12:48 left in the period. Susquehanna netted a pair of goals during the remainder of the quarter to hold an 11-9 advantage after 45 minutes of play
  • Susquehanna pushed the lead to three early in the fourth quarter before Dippel found the net with an unassisted tally. The River Hawks countered with about two and a half minutes remaining to take a 14-11 lead. Moravian scored four goals in the final 1:23 while up a player due to yellow cards. Dippel scored a pair of goals before sophomore midfielder Giana Lotito tied the game again at 13-13 with 24 seconds on the clock. Just four seconds later, Dippel found the goal again off a pass from Lotito for the game winner 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had seven players register a point in the contest with Dippel netting five goals to go with six draw controls
  • Salvatore contributed four goals, an assist, five draw controls, four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while Cherenson finished with two goals, an assist, four draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers
  • Reiner, Leatherman and Lotito each had a goal and an assist with Reiner scooping up three ground balls
  • Freshman midfielder Melissa Elefonte added an assist and a pair of ground balls while senior defender Olivia Williams had four ground balls
  • Sophomore goalie Kayla Graeff made 12 saves to go with five ground balls
  • The Hounds held a 40-33 advantage in shots and a 25-24 edge in ground balls while both teams had 14 draw controls. The Blue & Grey were 16-for-20 on clearing attempts
