REDLANDS, Calif. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team fell to host University of Redlands (Calif.), 20-14, Saturday in non-conference action to finish the Hounds' Spring Break trip to California.
How It Happened
- The Greyhounds scored first with goals from senior attack Jackie Salvatore and junior midfielder Gianna Lotito each finding the goal in the first two minutes of action. However, the Bulldogs scored six straight goals to lead 6-2 after 15 minutes of action
- Moravian would get within one goal at 6-5 after junior attack Victoria Salica tallied one goal and senior midfielder Alex Cherenson had two markers in the first two and a half minutes of the second period. Redlands broke up the run with a goal at the 11:47 before the Blue & Grey ran off four consecutive goals to take a 9-7 edge. Salvatore netted the first tally of the run while freshman midfielder Kathryn Hunsinger scored twice and sophomore midfielder Regan Reiner had a goal. The Bulldogs countered with three goals to move back in front 10-9. However, sophomore attack Melissa Elefonte found the net to tie the contest at 10-10 with 3:29 still to play in the first half. Redlands scored once more to take an 11-10 advantage into the intermission
- The Bulldogs added an early goal in the third quarter before Cherenson scored again to pull the Hounds within 12-11 midway through the third period. Redlands netted four goals in the final four minutes of the quarter to lead 16-11 after 45 minutes of play
- Both squad scored three goals in the fourth quarter with senior midfielder Madi Dippel netting two goals and Elefonte scoring once for the Greyhounds
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had nine different student-athlete record a point with Salvatore earning six points on two goals and four assists to go with five draw controls and three ground balls
- Cherenson finished with three goals, an assist, eight draw controls, two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while Dippel added two goals, two assists, four draw controls and two ground balls
- Elefonte had two goals and an assist while Hunsinger netted two goals
- Salica, Lotito and Reiner all tallied one goal with Reiner causing three turnovers and Lotito scooping up three ground balls while sophomore midfielder Bailey Leatherman had an assist
- Freshman defender Maggie Modrovsky registered a pair of caused turnovers and two ground balls
- Junior goalie Kayla Graef made three saves in the first half of the contest while sophomore Elle Burd recorded three saves and two ground balls in the second half
- Both squads took 30 shots with Moravian holding a 20-19 edge in ground balls and a 20-17 advantage in draw controls
