Moravian Races Pasts Wilkes in 2025 Landmark Conference Opener as Salvatore Breaks Conference Assist Record

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team scored six times in the first four minutes of the match on the way to a record-setting 26-2 victory over Wilkes University in the 2025 Landmark Conference opener on John Makuvek Field Saturday. 

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds netted the first goal when senior midfielder Madi Dippel scored just over a minute and a half into action. Senior midfielder Alex Cherenson followed with a goal 20 seconds later before sophomore attack Melissa Elefonte added a goal 20 seconds later. Freshman midfielder Kathryn Hunsinger tallied 20 seconds after Elefonte while sophomore midfielder Bailey Leatherman had a goal and Dippel scored again at the 11:11 mark for a 6-0 lead. Senior attack Jackie Salvatore assisted on Leatherman's goal to break Jillian Picciuto's career assist mark with the 154th assist of her career.
  • Moravian tallied six more goals in the first quarter with freshman midfielder Ella Steirer scoring twice and Salvatore, Cherenson, Leatherman and sophomore midfielder Reagan Reiner each adding a tally for a 12-0 advantage after 15 minutes of action
  • The Blue & Grey saw Elefonte score early in the second quarter before graduate student defender Keara Reilly found the net off a pass from Salvatore at the 11:12 mark. With the assist, Salvatore broke the Landmark Conference career assist record held by Elizabethtown College graduate Hannah Cressman as Salvatore registered her 158th career assist. Reilly scored once more while junior attack Victoria Salica finished off the first half with a goal to send Moravian to the intermission with a 16-0 lead
  • The Colonels scored the first and last goals of the third quarter as Steirer and freshman midfielder Izzy Lotito tallied markers for the Hounds to make it 18-2 after 45 minutes of play
  • The Blue & Grey added eight goals in the fourth quarter including the first career goals for senior midfielder Isabella Ziccardi, freshman defender Maggie Madrovsky and freshman defender Lillian Martino. Junior midfielder Gianna Lotito, Salica, Elefonte, Cherenson and Dippel also had goals in the period

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 15 different players score a goal and 16 players recorded a point led by Salvatore, who had a goal and a school record 10 assists to go with a career high 13 draw controls and two ground balls
  • Elefonte contributed three goals and three assists while Cherenson had three goals, two assists and eight ground balls
  • Dippel posted three goals with six ground balls and three caused turnovers while Steirer added three goals
  • Reilly posted two goals, an assist and two ground balls while Leatherman and Salica each scored twice
  • Hunsinger and Modrovsky both had a goal and an assist with Hunsinger contributing four draw controls while Reiner had a goal and two draw controls
  • Ziccardi, Izzy Lotito, Gianna Lotito and Martino all had one goal while freshman attack Cailin Filep added an assist and freshman defender Mia Faisetty added two ground balls
  • Junior goalie Kayla Graef posted two saves in the first half of the match while sophomore Elle Burd played the final 30 minutes
  • The Greyhounds set program records for goals with 26, assists with 19 and draw controls with 28 in the contest
  • The Blue & Grey were also 10-for-11 on clears in the match while holding a 40-8 advantage in shots and a 17-13 edge in ground balls
