COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team dropped a 22-10 non-conference match at Ursinus College Saturday.
How It Happened
- The Bears netted the opening goal of the match. The Greyhounds countered with three consecutive goals with the first goal from senior attack Jackie Salvatore and then two tallies from freshman midfielder Ella Steirer for a 3-1 edge. Ursinus scored twice to knot the score at 3-3 before sophomore attack Melissa Elfonte found the net to put the Hounds back ahead 4-3. The Bears answered with three goals to build a 6-4 advantage while senior midfielder Alex Cherenson scored for the Blue & Grey to cut the deficit to 6-5 after 15 minutes of action
- Ursinus began the second quarter with three more goals to move out to a 9-5 lead before Salvatore and junior attack Victoria Salica netted goals to cut the deficit to 9-7 with just under six minutes left in the first half. The Bears tacked on a pair of goals before Steirer scored again, and Ursinus had the last goal of the second period to head to the intermission with a 12-8 advantage
- The Bears netted five goals to begin the third quarter to stretch the lead to 17-8 before Steirer scored with just over two minutes left in the period. Ursinus added one more goal to make it 18-9 after 45 minutes of play
- Ursinus scored four times in the fourth quarter while Salvatore added a goal for Moravian
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had seven players record a point led by Steirer had four goals to go with a pair of ground balls
- Salvatore contributed three goals, an assist and eight draw controls while Elefonte added a goal and an assist
- Cherenson and Salica both netted one goal while sophomore midfielder Bailey Leatherman had an assist and two ground balls
- Freshman midfielder Kathryn Hunsinger registered an assist and three ground balls while senior midfielder Madi Dippel recorded three ground balls and three draw controls
- Sophomore defender Maia Machado and freshman defender Maggie Modrovsky both had a pair of ground balls
- Junior goalie Kayla Graef posted five saves and two ground balls in 51 minutes of action while sophomore Elle Burd played the final nine minutes in goal
- The Hounds had a 21-20 edge in ground balls
