BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse squad jumped out to a 6-1 first quarter lead on the way to a 20-6 non-conference victory over visiting Arcadia University on John Makuvek Field Wednesday as the Hounds captured their third straight win.
How It Happened
- The Greyhounds opened the scoring just 1:09 into the contest as senior midfielder Alex Cherenson found the net. The Knights tied the contest with under seven minutes left in the period before the Blue & Grey ran off five straight goals to lead 6-1 after 15 minutes of action. Senior attack Jackie Salvatore netted a pair of goals while Cherenson, sophomore attack Melissa Elefonte and freshman midfielder Ella Steirer each tallied one goal
- Cherenson and Salvatore began the second quarter as the Hounds pushed the edge to 8-1 before Arcadia scored again. Salvatore put in two more goals while Elefonte, sophomore midfielder Reagan Reiner and freshman midfielder Kathryn Hunsinger all scored once to send Moravian to the intermission with a 13-2 advantage
- The Greyhounds scored the first four goals of the second half with Elefonte and Cherenson each netting one marker and senior midfielder Madi Dippel scoring twice. The Knights finished the period with a goal to set the score at 17-3 after 45 minutes of play
- Both teams scored three times in the fourth quarter with Salvatore, Dippel and Cherenson each adding a goal for Moravian
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had ten different players record a point with Salvatore leading the squad with six goals and four assists to go with four ground balls and four draw controls
- Cherenson netted five goals while Elefonte added three goals, three assists and two ground balls
- Dippel scored a hat trick to go with five draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers while Stierer added a goal, an assist and a pair of caused turnovers
- Hunsinger and Reiner each netted once goal while junior attack Victoria Salica registered two assists
- Graduate student defender Keara Reilly posted two assists, six ground balls, three caused turnovers and two draw controls while sophomore midfielder Bailey Leatherman added an assist
- Junior goalie Kayla Graef made two saves in the opening half while sophomore goalie Elle Burd recorded two saves in the second half
- The Hounds held a 42-13 advantage in shots, a 25-11 edge in ground balls and were 15-for-18 on clearing attempts
