Moravian Races Past Susquehanna in Landmark Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team scored eight straight goals in the first and second quarters on the way to a 14-6 victory over visiting Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Saturday.

How It Happened

  • The River Hawks scored the opening goal with 8:13 left in the first quarter while junior attack Victoria Salica scored just ten seconds later to knot the score at 1-1 and start a run of eight straight goals for the Greyhounds. Senior attack Jackie Salvatore and senior midfielder Alex Cherenson both scored twice and freshman midfielder Ella Steirer added one goal as Moravian led 6-1 after 15 minutes of play
  • Senior midfielder Madi Dippel and junior midfielder Gianna Lotito both tallied goals early in the second quarter to push the Hounds' edge to 8-1. Susquehanna netted three goals over the remainder of the period while Dippel added one more to make it a 9-4 advantage for the Blue & Grey at the intermission
  • Moravian scored the only three goals of the third quarter with Salvatore, freshman midfielder Kathryn Hunsinger and sophomore attack Melissa Elefonte each netting one goal to make it 12-4 after 45 minutes of action
  • Elefonte and Dippel scored in the first half of the fourth quarter to push the advantage to 14-4 before the River Hawks netted the final two goals of the contest 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had eight players earn a point with Salvatore posting three goals and three assists to go with eight draw controls and a pair of ground balls
  • Cherenson recorded three goals and two assists to go along with four draw controls while Dippel added two goals, an assist and two draw controls
  • Elefonte netted two goals while Salica, Steirer, Hunsingler and Lotito each had one goal
  • Sophomore defender Maia Machado and sophomore midfielder Bailey Leatherman both scooped up two ground balls
  • Junior goalie Kayla Graef registered a season-high 13 saves in the victory
  • The Blue & Grey held a 39-22 advantage in shots, an 18-6 edge in draw controls and went 15-for-17 on clearing attempts
